    Good Value and Performance,

By&nbsp,Tom G Arizona See all my reviews

This is a good router, but I had issues throughout setup. I have Qwest DSL and the DIR 615 wizard setup could not auto configure the router to offer internet service.

Most routers use an intranet address in the range of 192.168.X.X , then devices connected to the router are assigned inside that ip range. I manually played with the settings and still could not get it to work. Irritated, I called Qwest thinking the problem was with the DNS values. That assumption was incorrect and usually Qwest DSL requires no tweaking at the router level. Qwest DSL tech support was great. They said it was a setup issue with the router and called Dlink’s tech team on a Sunday morning and we had a 3 way call. Dlink’s technician had me fixed up in three minutes.

Here’s what worked for me. Under the router’s ‘network settings’ we set the router IP address to 172.16.0.1 and the subnet mask to 255.255.0.0. If not checked, enable “DHCP Server”. Under ‘Wireless’ set the Channel to eleven and the Mode to “Mixed” to support 802.11b,g,n. I set security to WPA Personal. Make sure to save the configuration and this will cause the router to reboot. If things do not work now, unplug the modem to cold start the system, wait a minute and plug in the router.

Contrary to what someone wrote in a review, this router does indeed support wireless N devices in a mixed environement and doesn’t downstep to G for the whole network.

Remember, you can not setup the router via wireless. You must use an ethernet cable from your pc to port #1 on the router. Another cable runs from the router Internet port to the dsl modem.

Before calling tech support, 1st confirm that the modem is working. Run a cable from the pc to the modem and confirm you may be able to browse the Internet. With the modem eliminated as an issue, the tech people can quickly assist you configure the router. I am using Vista and the setup procedure didn’t require any Windows firewall changes so keep the firewall ‘On’.

I can be wrong but here is what I think the core setup problem was for me. The Qwest DSL modem uses a DHCP Default Gateway of 192.168.0.1. This is the same IP the Dlink router tries to use as its address. You end up with an IP addresss clash since both can not use the same address. The Dlink technician changed the router address to a different subnet in 172.16.X.X and eliminated the clash.

Good router, but N mode doesnt work in mixed environment,

This is an nice router. I found it simple to set up, it has up to date security features and works well except for the 802.11N issue

My problem with this router is that if you have any 802.11G devices in your network, then the network will run at G speeds, period says buyer support. I have one network device that’s 802.11G and non upgradeable. I bought this router with a DLink 802.11N PCMCIA card to get my laptop running at 802.11N, but, the router won’t talk N to the card in the laptop, because I have a G device on my network. , while the router is doing a good job as an 802.11G router, I may also throw the PCMCIA card away.

DLink’s website says of the DIR 615 router that “Not only does D Link’s Wireless N technology extend your wireless range, it also works with your present 802.11g wireless devices.” It could be nice if DLink fessed up that mixed mode doesnt work as projected. That factoid is hidden in a FAQ on the page for the PCMCIA card. I had to call buyer support to learn this. They say there aren’t plans to upgrade the firmware to truely support mixed mode environments.

I am writing this review to help dispel the myths about this router. I read many bad reviews for this router after I ordered it. I got really anxious and started to get buyer’s remorse, before I had it in my hands. I received the DIR 615 today and now hooked it up, I transfered all the cables from my D Link ‘b’ wireless router. I restarted my Time Warner Cable Modem and my Mac G4 computer. Everything worked good. I checked the wi fi connection to my iMac, which worked perfect, after I changed the network selection on the iMac. I then took my Titanium G4 Powermac to the second floor the DIR 615 is setup in the basement. I got perfect reception two flights up. After checking all Wi Fi functionality, I upgraded the firmware, from ver. 2.2 to 2.4 via D Link’s website, all is well. No problems.

After doing some research how to upgrade RAM to 4GBs in new Macbook Pro 2009 edition, MB990LL/A 13.3 Inch Laptop with 2GBs RAM and failing to order from Crucial directly I went with this choice. The upgrade was painless with the right screwdriver for those little screws on the back of the laptop it took me ten minutes to replace the default RAM and I spent most of that time by looking at the other interior parts to see how the laptop is built. It works flawlessly so far couple of days. I tested the RAM by loading memory hungry applications to fill the four GBs to see both modules work good.

This product does what it’s promises. It was $40 cheaper than having Apple install it. Note that installing RAM yourself doesn’t invalidate Apple warranty. You may want to, but, be comfy with small screws and a pretty fragile inner design of the new unibody Apple laptops.

I have never had any problems with Crucial Memory modules and this holds true for this 2GB 800MHz DDR2 PC2 6400 laptop memory.

I newly bought this to upgrade my Toshiba NB205 to 2GB of memory. Installing it’s a part of cake. Just remove the one that is in there now, and put this in its place. My netbook now recognized the 2GB of RAM.

This module will work well with pretty much all the Intel Atom based netbooks on the market. If your netbook comes with slower memory, this will still work as it is backwards compatible in speed but you are better off purchasing the speed of memory that matches what your system came with as it’ll cost less.

    &nbsp,&nbsp,

This memory upgrade is great for the price, considering just some years ago something like this could have set you back some number of hundred dollars. I easily installed it in my netbook the other day, which is a Asus EeePC 1005HA.

The installation for the Asus was simple: you unscrew the panel on the bottom of the netbook labeled “memory”, unclamp your installed RAM, , then push this one into place. Be sure you ground yourself before installing it, and don’t get any moisture or food in the netbook or on the RAM, it’ll ruin it! If the clamps aren’t snug to the side groves, you have installed it wrong and have to go back and push it in more. This will be quite evident when you turn on the computer and it does not start or you get a blue screen of death. You may be able to check if the module is properly installed after you startup your system if you have Windows XP by right clicking on “My Computer”, selecting “Properties” in the menu, and seeing if the memory changed under system info. If you do not want to go through booting the OS, press the key that brings up the BIOS typically F2 when you 1st start up the computer and check the system info. The specifics for other models are all available on Youtube. Just do a search for your model and “memory installation”, and many kind soul will posted many video information.

So, what is the difference between this and the 667 Mhz model? Not much. You are not going to see a big difference in speed from the upgrade, but it is worth the $3 extra if you may be able to use it. The difference will only be evident if you’re planning to overclock which is possible on my Asus. I have noticed about a 5 or so increase in speed over PC2 5300 modules in other systems. Of course, your system must be able to run Mhz, or it is just going to run at 667 Mhz. It’ll not hurt your system to install the if it can only use the 667, so do not fret if you are not sure what Mhz your system takes.

Buyer beware: be sure that your laptop, notebook, or netbook is matched with the memory module you buy! clearly, the EeePC 1005 netbook line takes this upgrade, but many do not. This is a DDR2 200 pin SODIMM module, if your system doesn’t take DDR2 it will not work, and if it does not take 200 pin modules, it will not fit in the 1st place! Most new computers do take DDR2, but generally check for compatibility before you purchase hardware. Do not take it for granted and wind up with a useless module!

Overall, I recommend this. It is great for the price, and you get a free 1 year warranty with it. Till you open up your system and spit on the module, it is rare that would not know something is wrong with it after a year of use.

I bought this to upgrade RAM in my brand new eee PC 1005HA. It was not the same exact part number as Crucial Technology came up with when I checked compatibility on their web site, but all the specifications seemed the same, so I chanced it. It was easy to install, and everything is working good, with twice the RAM at a reasonable price.
