Reluctantly Switched From Bluetooth,
August 29, 2009

By&nbsp,Cornwallis Alabaster Cuspidor, III but you c. Atlanta, GA See all my reviews

I was tolerant to purchase this mouse because I have only bought Bluetooth mice since 2002. But mouse manufacturers are clueless to our needs and so I has been forced to switch.

And man am I happy I did.

This mouse is worth it to miss the ultra tiny receiver. It’s oh so smooth and uncommonly comfy. I bought the Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 8000 about three weeks ago and my forearm and hand have been aching since. It was the 1st non ergonomic mouse, intended to be symmetrical for both right and left handed users, that I used in many years and using it was downright painful. I have the inappropriately named Apple Mighty Mouse which suffers from the same design flaw. The Performance MX, by comparison, puts little strain on my hand and arm, and the groove where my thumb sits not only feels great, it also gives greater control. I’ll never purchase a symmetrical mouse again.

The kit that comes with it’s smart and useful. The recharging cable is Micro USB so when the mouse battery dies, you just plug one end into your mouse and the other into your computer, and use it like a corded mouse while it charges. As well, it comes with a Wall to USB adapter so you may be able to charge the mouse in the wall if you do not have another USB slot available. That means I can still use the mouse while it’s charging from the computer or the wall. Handy! My last mice had charging stands and if the battery died, I could not use them again till they charged. Logitech also included a USB extension cable to help desktop users reposition the USB receiver and a useful little bag to hold the power plug and cords for us notebook users. All in all, a thoughtful kit!

I am using this with a MacBook Pro and it had 3 button functionality right out of the gate without installing drivers. The USB receiver itself is small. It is smaller than the magsafe power adapter head. Time will tell if I can carefully keep it in the notebook while I place the computer in and out of it is neoprene sleeve, but I do not anticipate this being a problem.

Do I wish this was a bluetooth mouse? Totally. But it’s more comfy than any Bluetooth mouse on the market, it moves the pointer with more fluidity, smoothness, and accuracy than any Bluetooth mouse on the market, and as much as I enjoyed not dealing with receivers over the past seven years. The total package offered by this mouse more than makes up for the fact that it is not Bluetooth.

I greatly recommend it.
This Mouse is a Delight,
August 30, 2009

By&nbsp,Jack Puglis Parsippany, NJ See all my reviews

I am used to being disappointed by merchandise after reading the marketing hype. Not so with this mouse I’m happy that I spent the money that I did to purchase it. I have used it every day for some number of hours for a week now and I like it better as time goes on.

Ergonomics: The mouse is comfy and designed. My last mouse had forward & back buttons near the thumb area, but they were so close to where my thumb was located that I could frequently hit one when 1st grasping the mouse. The thumb rest on this mouse is designed, it is easier to hold & control the mouse because the grip is so much surer.

Zoom, Forward & Back Buttons: These three buttons are located a bit above the thumb rest and are intuitive. The zoom button is just above your thumb, but far enough that I do not accidentally press it. When I do use it, the wheel increases or decreases the size of the image. Hit it again, and the zoom mode goes off, but nicely leaves the image at the size that you set it so you may be able to continue working.

The Forward and Back buttons are above the zoom button and I found them comfortably placed to access when I wanted them but not get in the way when I did not. They work well it’s typically easier to hit the back button than move the mouse to the left arrow in my browser.

Scroll Wheel: Here, the mouse pleasantly surprised me with its “hyper scroll” feature. I projected a somewhat improved scrolling capability after all, when marketing people write “hyper,” meaning super duper and extreme to the max, they typically mean that this variant works properly where their last product was buggy. OK, I am cynical. This feature is a true improvement. When you press a release button that’s conveniently located somewhat behind the scroll wheel, it frees the scroll wheel to turn, enabling you to scroll through pages fast. When you touch the wheel to stop it from spinning, the scrolling stops instantaneously. You may be able to simply push the release button again and you are back to “click” scrolling.

Slightly weird Software: The software that comes in the package on a CD enables you to change certain mouse settings to match your preferences. But, you have to go into the Control Panel / Mouse application to set things like the number of lines per wheel “click,” the “double click speed,” and the pointer image I like a big black arrow because of vision problems. I could have projected an integrated suite of software that handled all of these things, or at least advice from the maker that informed me that certain mouse settings had to be made in the control panel.

Other Stuff: Simple things improve this mouse, like low friction feet. All of my last mice were harder to move on the desk or table surface so harder to control. The only alternative that I could think of was to go into the control panel and set the “mouse speed” slower than it was when I doed any kind of good work. With this mouse, the low friction feet make it much easier to make good movements with the pointer, and overall make the mouse more nice to use.

Speaking of friction, the mouse rubberized pads on the right and left sides, making for a non slip grip, unlike my last mouse, which was obviously molded from recycled potato peels or something. The serious point is that I have not still found my fingers slipping when accessing any button.

Overall Comfort: A harder to define feature is how the mouse feels in general. I find my hand and arm less tired, and the grip feels natural to me it is shaped properly to my hand. Last mice, like the part of. Well, let us say “low priced” mouse that Dell supplied with my computer, forced my hand to comply to the mouse. The result is a feeling of “rightness” when I 1st take hold of this device.

Battery Recharge: Logitec thought through this one nicely. I have had the mouse for a week and charged when I 1st got it. It is been on all this time. BTW, the mouse really has an “on off” switch. After I pulled the mouse out of its box, I charged it while I used it by just connecting the mini USB connector to the wall charger. It was then alike to using a wired mouse while it charged. Logitec also supplies a USB cable so you may be able to charge the mouse from any of your computer’s USB ports. No putting the mouse into a cradle to recharge, which prevents you from using the computer.

Receiver Extender Cable USB: None of Logitec’s literature and no review that I have found properly states the simple reason for this cable: when you have problems with erratic pointer movements because of interference, too great a distance from the mouse to the receiver or obstructions between them, this cable enables you to move the receiver closer to the mouse. This gives you a so called “inverse square law” advantage in signal strength: as an example, at half of the distance between the mouse and the receiver, the mouse’s transmitted signal strength is four times higher at the receiver.

I paid $99 for this mouse at Best purchase in NJ. I think that this is a case where paying more gets you more. This mouse is a great product and I recommend it.

UPDATED: one problem solved, another replaces it,
September 7, 2009

By&nbsp,Ron Cronovich “Ron” Kenosha, WI See all my reviews

         Verified PurchaseWhat’s this?

UPDATE Sept 15: My original review was primarily positive but knocked off a star for many minor issues. I got a substitute which fixed one problem but introduces another. I will put comments into my original review.

I agree with nearly everything said in the other positive reviews about the great ergonomics, the scroll wheel that you may toggle between hyperscrolling very useful and the more common measured/notched scrolling, the many useful features attached to the other buttons, the way you may be able to use the mouse while the battery recharges, and the very tiny receiver that works with other matched devices.

Maybe you are having trouble thinking of a way to justify spending $100 for a rodent. I was too, but I thought of a way to justify it that maybe some of you may find helpful:

Before now, I’d never spent more than $30 on a mouse except once, a $50 microsoft bluetooth mouse that does not work too well. But I was never happy with any of them. They were either uneasy after an hour or so of use, or stopped working after a while, or something. After some months, I’d give up and purchase another one. Over time, I spent most likely $200 on a series of cheap mice.

When the Performance MX came out some weeks ago, I saw all the positive reviews from users and from professional publications and websites, and it occurred to me that maybe if I spent more for a really good mouse, I’d be happy and would not have to keep purchasing $30 mice every not many months.

As I said above, in most ways I think this is a great mouse and agree with the many other positive reviews. But I have experienced many minor issues, too.

1. When you start pushing the mouse around after it is been sitting idle for just some minutes there is an annoying one to two second lag before the cursor reacts. UPDATE Sept 15: Logitech tech support figured out that this was a defect. I got a substitute, and it is perfect. With Amazon, I did not have to pay shipping for the substitute, and I did not have to return the 1st mouse till after receiving the substitute. Happy with Amazon’s service.

2. Now, the number of devices that are matched with the unifying receiver is small: just two keyboards and three mice. The unifying receiver could be far more valuable if there were more different kinds of matched devices. As an example, I could like to see a numeric keypad and also a presentation/pointer that could work with the unifying receiver logitech makes both such devices now, but they will not work with the unifying receiver.

3. I am most likely being too picky here, but I find the “click” to be a bit tinny, and louder and less satisfying than other mice I have used. UPDATE Sept 15: the substitute mouse is worse. The left button makes the same tinny click when you press down, but when you let go it makes a louder sound, nearly like a knock on a door. The right mouse button does not do this. Go figure. This gets annoying after a while. Sorry, but if I am paying $100 for a mouse, I want it to be just about perfect.

Since nearly the other reviews of this mouse are positive, I’m sure that my experience with two of them each having a minor but annoying defect is unusual. In lack of these seemingly rare defects, this is a really great mouse.
Excellent mouse, but also think about the VX Nano,
September 10, 2009

By&nbsp,Techno Geek Silicon Valley, USA See all my reviews

This is a great mouse. One of the best ones I have ever used. Many of the features I really like:

The newer nano receiver, which can stay on the laptop at all times.

The wireless just works. No pairing issues, no long initial wait when turning on.

The “anywhere” part which is true! This mouse works on totally anything.

All the buttons you need on a small mouse

The great dual mode scroll wheel for step by step scrolling or fast flowing scrolling.

Good ergonomic in spite of the small size.

Easy on/off switch at the bottom, which doubles as a protection flap for the sensor.

Nice pouch.

All of this said, I’m instead using a Logitech VX Nano Cordless Laser Mouse for Notebooks Black.

I do not think one is obviously better than the other. Picking one and the other is a question of personal preference and priorities.

Here are the major differences:

The VX Nano is a pretty bit lighter by 30 40 and it makes a obvious difference. The Anywhere MX is a bit heavier to start with, but more importantly, it uses AA batteries and AAA for the VX Nano. Note that in spite of the bigger batteries about 2x capacity, The SetPoint software is predicting 100 days for the Anywhere’s AA and 150 for the VX’ AAA, so I guess the new “dark field” laser uses 2 3x more power. I thought of using AA AAA adapters to keep the weight difference down, but that could drop the battery life to &lt,2 months. For me, that was the biggest deciding factor with the next bullet. UPDATE: I have since discovered that the Anywhere MX can work with a single AA battery, which IMHO keeps the weight more reasonable.

The VX Nano is a pretty bit cheaper. Now that it is not the “best” Logitech laptop mouse, its price dropped a pretty bit. While the Anywhere MX price is pegged close to MSRP, the VX Nano’s price is oscillating up to 40 cheaper than the Anywhere MX. That is a big difference.

The Anywhere MX may be used on any surface. In comparison, the VX Nano can only be used on most surfaces. It is still very competent and works on fabric, many shiny surfaces. Anything you will usually find in a home or an office, and is much better than old red LED based mice. It doesn’t, but, work on transparent surfaces. If that is vital, then the Anywhere MX is the only choice.

The VX Nano has the back/forward buttons on the top vs the Anywhere MX on the side for the more conventional thumb access. Advantage Anywhere MX here. Those top buttons on the VX Nano aren’t great and I think that was one of the major complaints. I’m happy Logitech listened.

The on/off button on the Anywhere MX is simpler to use flap to slide and hold for three seconds.

Both mice get a pouch. The VX Nano has a mesh pouch that is a bit baggy. The Anywhere MX has a tight smooth pouch. It is a near tie.

The VX Nano comes with a USB extension with holder to use with a desktop. The Anywhere MX does not. Not a big deal IMHO.

The Anywhere MX has the new Nano receiver that can support some number of devices. The VX Nano has the “old” one. They’re the same size though and behave identically with a single device. In specific, there’s no pairing and initial latency issues as seen on Bluetooth devices.

&nbsp,&nbsp,

it’s great mouse, and I can certainly recommend it if you need new laptop mouse. Here are many more details:

1. Appearance: it’s alike to VX Nano, but has better rubber and color covering.

2. Size: it’s a bit bigger than VX Nano. I assume the new laser technology, Dark Field may be obliged more space. Another evident reason is two AA batteries were used rather than AAA batteries which were used in VX Nano. Nevertheless this mouse is still small enough to easily carry around.

3. Left & Right buttons: they’re a bit heavier touch than VX Nano. I do not like heavy touch on left & right buttons because it makes my fingers get tired faster. It’s my preference, so other people could like a bit heavier touch.

4. Back & Forward buttons: they’re a little hard to click with my thumb I believe my hand is common size. They should be located same as VX Nano.

5. Hyper fast scrolling: I generally love this scrolling system since it was presented, and it’s one key reason I favor Logitech mouse. But, there’s one problem that its rubber band around the hyper fast scrolling may be loosed in many time. After the rubber band is loosed, it makes erratic resistance while it’s spinning. I guess it may not be a problem to someone, but to me, it’s serious problem because I use it all the time. I think Logitech should do something about the rubber band.

6. Dark Field Laser tracking: I do not know how much it’s more correct and exact than common laser tracking, but I can make sure that it may be used nearly any surfaces as well as glass & laminated surface which common laser or optical mouse would not work. It’s really amazing. You’ll love this.

7. Carrying Case: it’s come with carrying case which looks to look better, but its size is smaller than the carrying case of VX nano. It has tight fit which makes a bit hard to be zipped. I switched its carrying case with VX nano carrying case.

8. Battery life: now, I can not say much about it, but assume Anywhere MX consumes a bit more battery since it uses AA rather than AAA. Plus, the dark field laser tracking system may be obliged more power than common laser tracking.

Last thing is “SetPoint” program which is its driver from Logitech. It gives many alternatives to customize each button, but limitation. I may propose “uberOptions”. Which lets customizing each button any way you want, but use it at own your risk.

Pros:

Forward/back buttons on side

Ergonomics or lack thereof

Hyper scroll wheel see full review

Storage place for nano transceiver

Full Review:

I’m a picky keyboard/mouse person 1st off so a three ranking really is most likely more of a four but read on and judge for yourself.

Sadly, when I went looking for a mouse for my refreshed company laptop, I couldn’t find something I was comfy holding on to and had an proper set of features: nano transceiver or Bluetooth, small size, forward/backward side buttons, etc. I saw in the store the Anywhere MX and in spite of the price of $79.99 plus savings I thought I could give it a attempt.

From an external point of view it had everything I hoped for. I opened the box and knew what to expect. The setup was non existent, everything was plug and play. The size was still a bit bigger than I expected but it was still compact and usable. Surprisingly, thanks to the hyped Darkfield technology, the mouse tracked on my desk and just about anywhere else I put it. The hyper scroll, which I have used for many time on my G9 on my desktop, made scrolling through pages of text so much easier than a regular mouse wheel. The nano transceiver was one, for the 1st time ever, I was comfy putting into a laptop and leaving there.

So why the 3? Well, let us start with the transceiver. Yes, it is small and tiny and is supposed to work with many of Logitech’s merchandise but as one reviewer said, that list is only three mice and two keyboards now. It does not make it useful to get the mouse for the unifying part unless you are to get one of the other things 1st. Moreover, the transceiver let us say you choose to take it out has its storage place IN the mouse. You must take the cover off as if you were to get at the batteries to store the transceiver. It is a rather big annoyance for such a small thing.

Next, the hyper scroll, while useful and one of my favorite inventions of Logitech from recent memory, has a flaw on this model in that to switch it from free scroll to notched, you use the scroll wheel as if it were the center mouse button. That means, for those who are fast to realize, that the center mouse button feature is gone from this mouse.Kinda. Really, if you do not install the SetPoint software, XP treats the application switch button below the scroll wheel as the center mouse button so guess it really depends if you are going to use the application switch button and the hyper scroll wheel together or not.

Moving on, this mouse, while diminutive by design, is uneasy. I knew to get it that it could be alike to another Logitech product on display there and thought that maybe the newer model could fix any design issues from last ones. Rather, they just took the same outer shell, moved some buttons around, and repackaged it. For someone with somewhat bigger hands I can not use this mouse for long or seriously without my hand cramping up.

Finally, this mouse has a pretty steep price point as most of Logitech’s tech oriented mice have in the past. I am not saying $80 is not worth it but honestly this mouse should most likely be half the cost considering what you are to get.

Parting thoughts: in general, this mouse packs many of features into a small space. The size is perfect for a movable mouse but that is put before comfort which is my biggest gripe with this product. For someone with a smaller hand size, who will be leaving the transceiver plugged in all the time, and who does not need the application switch and center mouse button, this is the ideal movable mouse presuming you have the money to use up on it. For me, I will be returning the mouse to the store I bought it from and to get another mouse, possibly the Performance MX, instead.
Customer review from the Vine&#8482, Program What’s this?

I am very picky about the keyboard and mouse I use. Now, I am using the Apple BT Aluminum keyboard and Logitech VX Nano mouse with my Mac. I received this keyboard, expecting to just be able to use it with my Windows system, but how wrong I was.

First, the box is MISLABELED. It says you need a Windows XP or Windows Vista system. LIES. Second, the box shows the keyboard with no Apple specific commands. LIES. The real keyboard has the command logo on both Alt keys, also as the Mac choice key on the Windows button.

Bizarrely, the drivers included in the box only are for Windows XP and Windows Vista, which I can not fathom for the life of me.. Make a fast trip to Logitech.Com and download their drivers for the Mac, after which both the keyboard and mouse show up in the little Logitech control panel inside System Preferences. Battery level and key bindings are all there and configurable!

Usage for keyboard:

Excellent. I was firstly turned off by the layout of the keys, with its slight swoop and dip, but after using it for a bit, it grows on you and you learn to really like it a pretty good deal! The keys are soft, and not too deafening, and tactile. You certainly get the feeling of a quality keyboard. And the palm rest is lovely, a cushion like affair. It uses two regular Duracell AA batteries.

On the Mac side, all the iTunes keys work, as well as play/pause/forward/back etc etc, and all the special keys for opening an e mail or the calculator work, too! you may be able to remap any of the function keys to open any Mac/Windows specific application you want. Excellent!

The mouse:

A comfy mouse, with a “hidden” button where your thumb rests it opens Expose in Mac OS X by default nice!. There is not a big total to say about the mouse, really. It is sort of a cross between the Logitech MX Revolution without the thumb wheel, and the VX Revolution. I really like it, and it does not suffer from the input lag like the Apple BT mouse does. Note: This is a right handed mouse only.

A nice feature of the mouse, and this shows that Logitech cares, is that it uses a rechargeable battery. Now that by itself is not that remarkable, but hear me out.. 1st, it is user replaceable, and second, it is not just any old generic battery. It is a Sanyo Eneloop AA battery, which is a high quality battery that suffers little battery drain when idling. The mouse may be recharged using the included AC adapter, or from your computer. So while it is 2.4Ghz wireless, you may be able to use it while charging it, which is great! The USB cable plugs into the front of the mouse, generally turning it into a “wired” mouse though it never really stops being wireless in the sense that it generally uses the 2.4Ghz adapter to connect to your PC/Mac.

Overall, I can not begin to state how remarkable this set is. That said, someone at Logitech needs a good slap on the wrist to update the box to identify that this keyboard/mouse set really is intended for Mac OS as much as it’s for Windows XP or Vista.

I can not recommend this mouse and keyboard greatly enough. 5/5

  EDIT

Logitech, for no obvious reason, updated their driver release from 2.6 to 2.7 for Macs, removing support for this keyboard/mouse set! If you want to be able to customize buttons etc on the keyboard/mouse, make sure to find the Logitech Control Center 2.6, not the new as of March 24, 2009 2.7 variant. I am following up with Logitech about this insanity.
REAL NAME
&nbsp,&nbsp,

This Logitech Cordless Desktop Wave Pro is a mix of a cordless variant of the Logitech Wave Keyboard and a single rechargeable battery variant of the Logitech MX 1100 Cordless Laser Mouse 910 000718. Overall, I’d have given it a four star ranking except for one thing: I had to purchase a Cables To Go 19018 2M USB A/A Extension Cable to stop the mouse from lagging/stuttering just plain stopping for some number of seconds at a time. The problem may be a mix of the thumb drive sized receiver for the keyboard/mouse and my steel Antec LifeStyle Solo ATX calm ATX Mini Tower Case Piano Black. The receiver plugs directly into a USB port instead of sitting on the desk with a cable extending to the USB port. For a laptop or maybe a non steel case, this should not be a problem in fact, it could be convenient. But, in my setup, I’d lose the mouse connection frequently. Just using a foot long USB extension cable so the receiver rested over my computer case got rid of most of the lagging. With the two meter extension, I have got the receiver over my desk like the receiver for my old Logitech 967692 0403 Cordless Desktop Comfort Laser Black and have not had any problems at all.

Regarding the keyboard part of this package, it is pretty good. In comparison to my old keyboard, I find it a bit cramped. But, I think this is a function of my being used to the more separated hands of the pure ergonomic design. The wave design is better than a regular, straight design. But, not as good a real split hand ergonomic keyboard. My only other complaint about it’s a minor one: the palm rest is non detachable it’s a soft, padded rubber, though. I had a micro bead palm rest that was great. But, with the non detachable nature of this keyboard, it is not really workable. One other thing to be aware of is that the two AA batteries that come with the keyboard are non rechargeable unlike the mouse’s.

For the mouse, I have already mentioned the stuttering problem and my solution. The only other problem I have with it’s that the Back and Forward buttons are a bit small and awkwardly placed again, this could just be because I am used to a different mouse. On the positive side, the mouse feet are great. My old mouse did not slide well at all. On the same surface, this one glides smoothly and easily. The mouse feels good and moves well. The next biggest positive could most likely be the standard rechargeable AA battery instead of a proprietary variant and note that there is only one battery instead of the two that come with the stand alone mouse. The set comes with a charger for the mouse. But, I will just be using my standard battery charger and batteries instead. I also like the little button below the scroll wheel which changes the scroll wheel from free spinning to click spinning.

So, if it were not for the receiver interference problem which may be particular to my steel case setup, I’d have been happy to rate this set at a Good four stars out of 5. But, because of it, I am dropping my ranking by one to a Good three stars out of 5.

Customer review from the Vine&#8482, Program What’s this?

Logitech’s Cordless Desktop Wave Pro Set builds upon the positives of the original Wave set. The Pro variant adds improved range and a better mouse with the Logitech MX 1100 Cordless Laser Mouse. The mouse with this set comes with the added benefit of a convenient rechargeable battery. The Wave keyboard keeps all of its design elements, as well as extra function keys and hot keys for many common tasks. Of course its major feature is the great Wave form that I favor to any of the other ergonomic keyboards. Considering the integrated number pad and wrist wrest, this keyboard is really still small in comparison to likewise equipped models.

The original Wave combo is still a hard keyboard and mouse set. But by adding the “Pro” set to the mix, Logitech has given customers many more choices to make. Presuming you already know that you want the “Wave” keyboard form, here are my thoughts about your alternatives.

THE CHOICES

1. If you’re a right handed or ambidextrous mouse user and you favor a higher profile mouse like the Logitech MX Revolution Cordless Laser Mouse, then the Wave Pro Set is the way to go to get the ergonomic keyboard and top mouse combo.

2. If you’re a lefty, but think you may be able to change to a flatter lower profile mouse, the original Wave Set is the way to go.

3. If you’re a lefty, or a picky mouse user who wants to use a more powerful or customized mouse like the Logitech G9 Laser Mouse, then the corded Logitech Wave Keyboard is the way to go. Plug in the mouse of your choice and you only have to live without the wireless connectivity.

PROS

+ Nice Wave keyboard I have grown to really like, comfy and durable

+ Keys are shaped to be closer to your fingers, requiring less hand movement

+ Integrated wrist cushion comfy and convenient!

+ Integrated number pad in a nice form factor

+ Great wireless design for both keyboard and mouse

+ Nice MX 1100 mouse, which is perfect for most righties

+ Mouse is rechargeable conveniently via USB!

+ Improved wireless range with a supposedly more stabile connection

+ Included packaging may be used as a dust cover for the keyboard

+ Works well with Windows Vista & XP and Mac OS X

+ Weak battery indicator

+ Vista key shortcuts work nice!

+ Programmable smart keys

+ Batteries included!

+ Reasonable list price given improved mouse

+ Logitech software improved many over the past year

CONS

Mouse may still not be ideal for all, lefties and power users may need another

Key design may not suffice for those who favor full split ergonomic designs

Key pad is stationary on the right side, also not ideal for lefties

THE MOUSE

The MX 1100 is a great new design for mice that fits perfectly with this set. This mouse is alike to the MX Revolution, and is sold as a stand alone product. The stand alone MX 1100 still uses batteries. This variant of the MX 1100 has a convenient rechargeable battery that only requires plugging it in via USB once in a while.

One thing that comes as an unintended byproduct of the more powerful mouse are features that take many to get used to. As an example, turbo mode lets you to click the scroll wheel and quickly scroll through long papers. If you aren’t familiar with this feature, you may think your mouse is broken. Simply click down on the scroll wheel to return it to normal mode and it should scroll in a slower / more controlled way.

The sad part of that’s that the mouse from the original Wave Set has grown on me many. I used to entirely use another mouse with the set, but newly had to go back to that one for some days. It has a lower profile and is most likely an easier modification for lefties.

THE KEYBOARD

The keyboard design has now been proven with nearly a year of handling. The wave form is REALLY nice, with nice sized keys that work proficiently. This will those who want something less extreme than full split keyboard designs but something more firm than the standard squishy keyboard. I have tried both wireless and wired models and they both perform well.

The design of the keyboard is tough and comfy. The function keys and the extra number pad are nice features. The integrated keyboard wrist pad is nice and comfy, and the design gives you one less thing you must have on your desk. This is a great keyboard that may be used well by lefties and righties, though it’s possibly less adaptable than models with the moveable number pad like the ambidextrous Microsoft SideWinder X6 Keyboard. Still, the comfort of the Wave form gives it lots of positives for majority of people.

I have really come to favor this to the split keyboard design after using it for a period of months. I can move my hands less and let my fingers touch the keys with ease. Consequently, my typing speed has really improved somewhat.

The added range will open up this keyboard for use with a media center PC. The original offered good working distances from the USB mini receiver, but the 2.4 GHz band has to enhance upon that largely. That makes it a hard improvement for media center applications. I have still to find out its full range, but I plan on testing that soon.

The only concern I have about the new frequency is that many more devices moved into this 2.4 GHz range, creating the possibility of interference. Again, I have not seen that happen to me still, but I’ll certainly be mindful be aware of any such issues.

The keyboard is available in a stand alone corded variant, but most will favor this wireless set unless you need or want to use a different mouse.

Many simply need the ergonomics of a split keyboard or another design. Of the many alternatives for ergonomic keyboards, you may want to investigate these if the wave keyboard does not satisfy you.

Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Desktop 7000

Logitech Cordless Desktop Comfort Laser

Adesso Intellimedia MediaPro Flat Ergonomic Keyboard

CONCLUSION

This set is a nice improvement and totally should be on your list. The original Wave set was a strong four star product for me, but this one has just enough enhancements to get up to five stars. While I rarely give five star reviews, this one deserves it as long as you’re the meant audience. If you’re a right handed, this should be a five star product for you. If you’re a left handed, we’ll have to wait and see if Logitech plans on offering this set in a lefty variant.

Enjoy!

Just as with iPhone, iPod touch, and MacBook Pro, the Bluetooth Magic Mouse adds gestures and swipes to the common clicks to bring more functionality and assist you get more done with less effort. Apple Magic Mouse
At a Glance:
Multi Touch technology enables swipes and gestures. Laser technology for correct tracking on almost any surface. Bluetooth for simple setup. Stunning ambidextrous design.

The complete top of the mouse is a Multi Touch surface. View bigger. Beautiful Design with Seamless Multi Touch Surface
One look at Magic Mouse and you will know it is something special that only Apple could dream up. With a low profile design and seamless top shell, you will marvel at this beautiful mouse and its smooth, buttonless look. It is not all looks, though. Once you touch it, you will appreciate how good it feels in your hand. And the magic really begins when you start using it. The Multi Touch surface covers the complete top of the mouse, and the mouse itself is the button. Scroll in any direction with one finger, swipe through web pages and photos with two, and click and double click anywhere. Inside Magic Mouse is a chip that tells it exactly what you want to do. Which means Magic Mouse won&rsquo,t confuse a scroll with a swipe. It knows when you&rsquo,re just resting your hand on it. Laser Tracking Engine
Magic Mouse uses powerful laser tracking that&rsquo,s far more responsive and responsive on more surfaces than conventional optical tracking. That means it tracks with precision on almost every surface if it&rsquo,s a table at your beloved restaurant or the desk in your home office without the need for a mousepad. Make One Great Gesture After Another
Multi Touch technology on the iPhone and iPod touch presented a breakthrough way to interact with your content. Magic Mouse, with its Multi Touch surface, does the same thing for your Mac. When you use gestures, it&rsquo,s as if you&rsquo,re touching what&rsquo,s on your screen. For example, swiping through web pages in Safari gives you the feeling of flicking through pages in a magazine. And scrolling with Magic Mouse isn&rsquo,t your everyday scrolling. It supports momentum scrolling similar to iPhone and iPod touch, where the scrolling speed is dictated by how fast or gradually you perform the gesture.

Stunning, beautiful design by Apple. View bigger. Give It Your Personal Touch
Maybe you want scrolling but don&rsquo,t want swiping. Or two button clicking instead of one. Whatever the case, Magic Mouse works the way you want it to work. All you do is go to the Magic Mouse preference pane in System Preferences to enable or disable features. The ambidextrous design of Magic Mouse means it fits comfortably in your right hand if you&rsquo,re a righty or in your left hand if you&rsquo,re a lefty. And left handers can exchange left and right button functionality using System Preferences. System Requirements
Bluetooth enabled Mac computer Mac OS X v10.5.8 or afterward with Wireless Mouse Software Update 1.0 present keyboard and mouse for setup

Multi Touch technology allows you to use gestures and swipes directly on the mouse surface.

         Verified PurchaseWhat’s this?

Okay, I’ll say I am fractional to this mouse, but I am going to attempt and write an objective review here for kicks. I am going to break this down into topical sections for easy digestion.

=== Tracking ===

Tracking is, amazingly for a Bluetooth mouse, superbly smooth in everyday use. I’m not an FPS gamer, so I can not comment on the performance for twitch gaming. Pointer motion is smooth and consistent, as with the best corded and non BT cordless mice. As well, in my tests, the mouse tracked perfectly on a white laminate table and a brushed aluminum table both hard surfaces for many laser and optical mice.

Many reviewers complained that the tracking is too slow, at the highest speed setting. Though I have not experienced this problem, I believe it’s real for those people, but I think it must be a problem that’s particular to their specific software or hardware environment, by no means a common problem. The Magic Mice at the Apple Stores I have been to haven’t manifested it. These users may find break with a new third party freeware called BetterTouchTool, which has a greater range of mouse speed modification than Apple’s prefpane more on BetterTouchTool below.

=== Scrolling ===

The touch based scrolling is a revelation. I leave the momentum choice on, and scrolling through long web pages is a dream. So smooth! The scrolling action is alike to dragging the slider on a scroll bar, rather than clicking the up/down scroll buttons as it’s with most other mice. After having used the Magic Mouse and its amazing scrolling talents for a couple of weeks, when I am now forced to use regular mice, the scrolling feels jumpy and crude. That said, I do on occasion miss the feel of turning a physical scroll wheel. I’d say that a physical wheel may supply more predictable scrolling. But the almost pixel precise scrolling action of the Magic Mouse just feels really lavish. The only thing I could ask Apple to enhance is to let users change the “friction” of the momentum scrolling with a slider in the prefpane. I could decrease the friction a bit.

=== Buttons/Configurability ===

As you’ll know already, this is a one button mouse that may be used as a two button mouse thanks to smart software. I experienced zero problems with the mouse differentiating between left and right clicks. It’s true that the mouse doesn’t recognize right clicks when your index finger is resting on the mouse. This has not been a problem for me at all, because for many reason I naturally lift my index finger somewhat when I start pushing down with my center finger. The other thing that’s widely recognized is that there’s no provision for center clicks or another actions besides the ones mentioned in the product literature. Apple really has many of room for improvement in the device driver in this area.

But what is possibly less recognized is that there’s an excellent little freeware third party app called BetterTouchTool for OS X only that addresses these shortcomings well. As an example, you may be able to map a three finger tap to Expose or any key mix. It’s an complete must. The app is still in a early development phase and is usually updated sometimes some number of times in one day, and there are some number of features still to be completely implemented, but already it removed all cause for complaint about lack of configurability, as far as I am worried.

=== Ergonomics ===

The mouse’s form takes many to get used to. It is low, which discourages resting your palm on it or wrapping your whole hand around it. The sharp edges also detract from holding this mouse as you could rounder ones. The optimum way I have found to hold this mouse is to lightly grip its sides, with my thumb on one side, my ring finger and pinkie on the other, and my palm making no contact with the top. This is easy to do because the sides curve inward from top to bottom, allowing a sure grip. It is a sort of dainty way to hold the mouse, but it works, and it also minimizes accidental scrolling, which happens on occasion when you inadvertently touch the top. As a bonus, the aluminum sides supply a nice, cool feeling to the fingertips when you grab it again after letting it rest for a while.

Another ergonomic quibble I have is that the smooth plastic top of the mouse produces too much friction when my fingers aren’t perfectly dry. The textured glass of Apple’s new trackpads is much better in this regard. As a workaround, I have taken to put a little light oil on the mouse top to decrease this friction and make scrolling easier.

=== Conclusion ===

This is an strange and groundbreaking mouse that unfortunately demands many modification in handling behavior to get the best results, but then rewards you with superior functionality particularly with an help from many third party software.

After to get the chance to use this mouse for a full day, I can say that it was well worth the wait. As a die hard apple fan, I have grown fond of the mighty mouse now called the apple mouse but the one thing that I loathed was the scroll ball located over the mouse. After only hours of use, gunk could build up generating the scroll useless unless you wanted to do mouse operation using an exacto knife. Through incorporation of multi touch technology, Apple eliminated this problem, and produced a device which is really revolutionary.

I, like many, has been worried about the ergonomics of the mouse given its low profile but I’m happy to report that I have been quite happy at how hard it feels in my hands and the in general ergonomics of the device. I also haven’t had any troubles with scroll or tracking speed, in fact I have found them to be considerably better than the mighty mouse. I also haven’t had to change either of these settings higher as others have said, the magic mouse really worked straight out of the box with no modifications. All in all, this mouse was well worth the wait and I can only imagine the possibilities future updates will bring by gesture support!

The Bottom Line:

If you are a Mac owner and are wanting to upgrade the lousy mouse that came with your system you’ll be pleased with the Magic Mouse. Those looking for more buttons and macro functionality should look at likewise priced merchandise from Logitech and others.

Review:

Apple is recognized for elegantly intended merchandise, but unfortunately its input devices have fallen short over the last decade or so. That all changes today. The Magic Mouse is the 1st Apple mouse in most likely twenty years that lives up to the elegance of the merchandise it’ll be connected to.

The complete mouse is touch sensitive, and amazingly it really works without many ‘false’ reads. The mouse is smart enough to detect finger motion for scrolling when my palm is resting on the device.

A ‘momentum’ setting in the software driver gives your Mac the same kind of scrolling behavior as the iPhone. Fast flicks of the finger scroll faster, while slower movements give better control. It gets a little flaky when a scrollable form is implanted on a webpage, but they are things that can get worked out with future driver releases. Best of all most of the mouse behavior works in virtual environments like VMWare and Parallels.

Magic Mouse also has a satisfying mechanical clicking system. Like the trackpad on the new Macbooks, it just feels right. Right clicking is available, but it must be configured 1st in the control panel.

I am puzzled that while Apple prides itself on designing non replaceable rechargeable batteries into its merchandise, the Magic Mouse runs on AA’s! Batteries are included, but they aren’t rechargeable. You will have to get your charger and batteries if you want to use rechargeables. Battery life is decent, and after three full work days I am still at 90.

PROs

====

Beautiful design with an groundbreaking touch sensitive surface

Satisfying clicking mechanism

Seamless bluetooth connectivity

CONs

====

Only has two possible button mixes click and right click

Apple software update obliged before the mouse is completely working as of 11 3 09

Right clicking needs to be configured in the control panel first

You’ll need a seperate battery charger if you want to use rechargeables

Windows users will not get the same functionality as Mac holders at this time
Logitech MX1100 may be the best, if you aren’t an MX Revolution user,
December 17, 2008

REAL NAME
&nbsp,&nbsp,

&nbsp,&nbsp,

I have been using this mouse for more than a month now. When the MX1100 1st came out, the price was costly than the Logitech MX Revolution mouse. I expected that the MX1100 goed to be an upgraded variant of the MX Revolution and that may not be true in many parts.

I have been a big fan of Logitech for a long time. Since they made their 1st mouse, I was a buyer and have never been dissatisfied. The only other company that I think is the best for a mouse is Microsoft Yes, they’re a great hardware company. The dependability of a Logitech mouse is good and I still have many Logitech mice and trackballs floating around my house. When I got the Logitech MX Revolution mouse, I thought that I got a mouse that can go with the rest of my life. : And when I saw a Logitech mouse that was costly than the MX Revolution, I has been excited how Logitech could improved their technology more. The thing is that there’s no cool feature added to the MX1100 and many things aren’t better than the MX Revolution. Here are the things that I felt throughout the handling. I primarily compare the MX1100 with the MX Revolution, because the mouse in this price range, I think still the MX Revolution is the best and it may be served as a reference for a review.

1. The MX1100 is fatter than the MX Revolution. At 1st, I thought that the MX Revolution was big, but, the MX1100 is bigger. As a matter of fact, it’s fatter and more round than the MX Revolution. When I 1st grabbed it, I felt like I holded a baseball in my hand. Since I got too used to the contour of the MX Revolution, the MX1100 felt a little uncomfortable to me in the 1st place. But, once I got used to it, it felt much better. Still, I like the form of the MX Revolution better I have a small hand and now the MX Revolution feels much slimmer than before.

2. The material used in the MX1100 feels cheaper than the Revolution. It may be due to grayish black color and the light weight plastic, but, the touch and the feel of the MX Revolution is way better. And the color and finish of the MX Revolution looks better than the MX1100.

3. As far as the weight is worried, the MX1100 is lighter than the MX Revolution. If you like a light mouse and want to have less burden on your wrist, then the MX1100 may work better for you.

4. I have generally liked a mouse with a rechargeable battery. But, the MX1100 uses normal AA batteries 2 and doesn’t supply rechargeable batteries. The good thing is that Logitech claimed that the battery can last nearly nine months of a normal handling. If I could not complain about this. Because, the rechargeable battery in the mouse gets degraded and you may want to recharge the mouse more frequently over the time. And the rechargeable battery in the MX Revolution isn’t easily replaced. If the battery in the MX1100 lasts about nine months, I’m happy with it.

5. In the MX Revolution, clicking the wheel changes the scroll mode from the fast scrolling mode to the clicky wheel mode or vice versa. In the MX1100, you may want to use the small button right under the scroll wheel to do that. I’m using the MX Revolution and the MX1100 together now and am generally perplexed about it. But if you’re one who uses either one, you don’t have to worry about it. BTW, I’m a big fan of the fast scrolling mode you can scroll many pages inside a second and it also works beautifully in the MX1100.

6. , there’s a new thing in the MX1100. It’s a thumb button and is under the place that you put your thumb on it. It isn’t observable and hidden inside the rubber under the place for your thumb. Once you get to used to it, it’s convenient. As you expect, you may be able to assign any action to this thumb button. And the horizontal wheel used to located near the thumb in the MX Revolution is gone. I’m not missing it since I didn’t use it much. I assigned the volume up/down to the horizontal thumb wheel, but, I generally forget that the wheel is there. I think Logitech may feel the same way that it’s useless. No complaint.

Overall, the MX1100 mouse is a great mouse. The tracking could not be better and it’s a top notch mouse in every part. It just has a sibling that shines more, the MX Revolution. Now the price of the MX1100 is roughly $10 cheaper than the MX Revolution and if you like a light mouse with a fat and round design, there’s no reason not to decide the MX1100. I dropped the MX1100 more than some number of times from the table and it still works well. It didn’t have a single scratch on it. It’s tough and firm. And if you aren’t a big fan of a shiny and glossy surface mouse like the MX Revolution, the MX1100 mouse is for you. They’re like the glossy and matte papers in the a photo printing. The choice is on you.
REAL NAME
&nbsp,&nbsp,

I bought this mouse when I moved desks at work and my mouse cord could not reach. I was told that I could go pick out a new mouse and I thought, well the company is paying and I use it all day, I may also get the best. It is surely nicer that my $15 Dell mouse. Unfortunately, for each improvement, there looks to be a problem that makes me wonder if I should take it back and just get a USB extention cord.

Personal Preference and Comfort

This is clearly going to differ from person to person, but I did many research on this after realizing that this mouse is not the best for me, and so it may be useful for other people. I could say that my hands are medium sized larger than most women. This mouse felt great in the store when I rested my hand on it, but after using it for a while, my hand becomes uneasy and my wrist feels inflexible. I had never realized it, but I am a “fingertip” mouse user www2.Razerzone.Com/MouseGuide/html/fingertipgrip.Php, where I only make contact with the mouse with the info of my fingers. This mouse is intended to have your hand rest on it so that the palm is in contact www2.Razerzone.Com/MouseGuide/html/palmgrip.Php. I can still use it with my fingertips, but its bigger and heavier than ideal for that kind of use. The term “ergonomic” is misleading because ergonomics is all about finding what fits you well. I’m disappointed with LG that they’re one of the top mouse manufacturers but supply no guidance in picking a mouse with a correct fit.

Buttons and Customization

This mouse has many more buttons than I am used to, but the scrolling is still the most vital for me. 1st off, the hyper fast scrolling does as advertised and works well for my office type uses. I can whiz through long papers, provided the computer can keep up. It works well in Word and Firefox, but is pretty useless in Adobe PDF reader since the software looks to insist on a maximum speed of crawl despite. I have gotten used the smooth bearing and like using it when it is not needed. But, I run into issues with AutoCAD and ArcGIS. The scroll wheel is totally essential for these programs because I use it to zoom and pan. To prevent accidental zoom, I have to put the scroll wheel back in normal mode. Not a big deal, the button is right on the mouse but it is a bit annoying to readjust. Panning is performed by holding down the scroll wheel and this is where I make the most errors. It is so loose that if I do not push it down perfectly, I will push it to the side and mess up the programs. I deactivated the side scrolling and that assists but it is annoying to lose possible functionality because the hardware is poor.

I like the button layout on the mouse. They are inflexible and accidental presses are minimal. I have a little trouble to get the hidden thumb button to register on occasion. All the buttons are greatly customizable and you may be able to assign different functions to different programs. Many of their default settings are a bit strange so it is worth fiddling with. The document switcher is many less convenient than Alt Tab, so I would not annoy with it. The thumb button is set to go a Google search on whatever I highlighted. I also changed the DPI buttons to Copy/Paste. We will see if I use it.

Performance

The biggest issue I have with this mouse is an unreliable mouse signal. I can not have my cell phone near the mouse or the receiver without the cursor moving erratically. This issue looks to magnify when I use a graphics intensive program like AutoCAD or ArcGIS. It is inconvenient to have to have my phone kept away because I typically keep it on silent and rely on the vibration to alert me of a call. Without the cell phone, I still experience many issues. There is not much advantage to having a exact mouse if the signal does not keep up. From what I can tell, it looks like problems the 2.4 GHz bandwidth are common, and I could expect LG to go with something more dependable for a top of the line mouse.

Overall

I could recommend this mouse if 1 you favor resting you hand on your mouse, rather than use your fingertips 2 the USB dongle will be close to your mouse 3 you use the scroll button primarily for scrolling, rather than as a center button. Otherwise, shop around because $80 should give you many nice alternatives.
Second best mouse money can buy,
October 21, 2008

&nbsp,&nbsp,

I must start this review by saying that this is the SECOND best mouse money can purchase I believe..

The best mouse money can purchase is still the Logitech MX revolution which is really cheaper than this now.

I’ve been a Logitech fan for many years. Every time they create a cool mouse I must purchase it. I’m a sucker for cool high tech gadgets. By now I own 2 MX revolution, 3 VX Revolution, 1 MX Air, 1 G9, 1 VX Nano, 1 V470 and the list continues. I know, I have issues : .

This mouse is nice built like all the high end Logitech merchandise. Is alike to the MX revolution with the following differences, which I think about, CONS:

1. The battery isn’t fitted like the MX Revolution which comes with a charging cradle. The MX1100 works with 2 AA batteries. This may be a good thing in the long run but is annoying to keep changing the batteries. Another reviewer made a comment about the MX 1100 battery life, but I can not comment on that still. The box claims nine months which could be amazing if is true.

2. The mouse is bigger than any other mouse I have. I favor a normal size mouse but a person with big hands may appreciate this.

Now the other differences from the MX Revolution that I think about as PROS are:

1. The center wheel acts as a button only. On the MX revolution it toggles between the fast scrolling mode and the normal mode. On the MX 1100 they provided the button beside the wheel for that. I think it works better than pressing the wheel. The other good thing about it’s that’s as smooth as the MX Revolution.

2. They added a thumb button. I do not see myself using that but is nice to know is there.

I will rate the MX 1100 four stars only because I still like the MX Revolution better but that’s just me. Before spending that much money on a mouse I propose stopping by a retail store and get an idea how it feels in your hand.

These are my two cents.
