I bought this heater for around $200 on Amazon. Build quality is good but not excellent. It has all the features of units that cost twice as much. The packaging and information were good. It works well in zero to light wind on our deck, but when the wind picks up forget about and go back inside. I have still to burn an complete 20 lb. Bottle of LPG, having used the heater some number of times, so it appears to be pretty easy on the wallet to operate. Be sure you anchor the unit to the deck or ground. Ours blew over and bent the “top hat” in a “L” form. It bent back pretty good but now has a crease in it. Not much else to say. Good luck.

I’d recommend going into the assembly procedure in a good mood, so you may be able to get a laugh out of the somewhat chaotic and sketchy assembly information. If you go in short tempered you will most likely be depressing. I am pretty sure the parts in the box did not match up with the list of parts I has been supposed to have, which in turn did not match up with the parts referenced in the instruction steps. But the parts I had did all go together properly with nothing left over expect the 3rd foot mentioned below. It seemed like possibly the engineering of the heater was an evolving procedure and the information had not kept rate.

A couple of examples. The heater came with three little feet presumably to make it more tip resistant and a set of roller wheels. Neither has been mentioned in the information. The holes where the roller wheels screw on overlap where one of the three feet screw on, so I guess you must decide between three feet or two feet and wheels. I went with the wheels, which do make moving the heater pretty easy as long as you have the room to tilt it over. As well, the major instruction sheet just showed a single part top reflector. But the reflector really came in four pieces with own separate assembly card.

Anyway, it was not all that hard to figure out where the parts went and get the thing together.

I wheeled it outside, hooked up a propane bottle and it fired right up. Mine lights in just some seconds one of the other reviewers mentioned theirs takes 45 seconds or so. It does not bake you with heat which I suppose is good for the propane bill, but does supply a nice light warming to take the edge off on a cool night.

This gas patio heater is great. It was easy to assemble and works like a charm!

I live in western PA and this is great on cool nights. We use it to warm us up when to get out of the hot tub. It’ll be ideal for winter time use in this area.

The price was more than reasonable and it’s much larger than I projected. It’s tough you put sand in the base and stands up to the wind. In the green color it fits in with the outside patio.

I has been disappointed once this item arrived in the mail, when I saw the tiny box it was filled in. Moreso when I opened it, to find it has been constructed completely out of thin brittle plastic, the kind they used to make the old cheap transistor radios out of. I could only imagine how the sun and rain could erode this thing.

I should have cut my losses on the shipping charges and returned it now, but instead decided not to judge a book by its tacky cover. I installed the thing on the front of my carport, and was happy to see it light up the 1st time I tested it. This is no doubt the point where other reviewers decided to post their glowing reviews.

A not many weeks afterward I noticed that the lights failed to turn on when I moved past the sensor. 1st chance I had I took it down and opened it up. I figured that the battery may have been faulty, or old when they sent it. I’d attempt a new rechargeable battery and hopefully that’d fix it.

I got another nasty surprise at that point: the battery is hard wired in so when it goes bad, it will take an electrician just to change it. Which means that at the most, if the unit you get is better built than mine was, you will end up replacing the complete unit once the battery expires which they do, typically after a year or two if you live in a four seasons area.

When I went to take off the tiny transistorized control panel, the lights went on. Great, I thought. It is not the battery, or the LEDs. Now all I have to do is figure out what the problem is.

To make a long time wasted story short, there was no way I could get the motion sensor to work, and once I screwed the item back together the lights failed to work again.

The best I could hope for, if I wanted to keep wasting time on it, was to get the LEDs to turn on full time, and stay on as long as the solar charge held. This mean they’d be on all day and night, and most probably once the charge drained it could just keep draining before building up another charge strong enough to power the lights.

Bottom line: this thing is badly engineered with CHEAP parts that are probably fail soon after you buy it. It most likely costs under $3 to make in many slave shop in China, so it is very overpriced at over $30 with shipping.

It’s no wonder there’s only a 30 day ensure on this POS.

I will never by another product from this company again.

This was an easy to install item. It’s attached to the shed across from my house and the light is angled toward my side door. All I have to do is begin to open the door and the light turns on. In the black of night, the light is more than sufficiently bright. It was great to let the dog out and let her to move about and she causes the light and comes to the door. I could really recommend this clean and green lighting resource.

Update three months later: Working flawlessly, in the shorter days of autumn. Bright, does the job, easy for me to hook and unhook the dog leashes from their collars at night. If I had the need, I could get another one of these, for sure.

I took it out of the box and has been excited at 1st. Yes the plastic is cheap, but it does work. THE ONLY PROBLEM is that the light is DIM!!! I has been shocked. 15 LED bulbs! you could think it could blind you. Either the batteries were weak or the device is flawed although I did charge the battery in sun for two days. Luckily I tested it before mounting it.

I have cheap LED flashlights that are lighter THAN THIS “security light”. It emits a bluish light that is around a two foot diameter spot. After that there’s a faint bluish glow that does not illuminate anything. If you placed it on a roof it could light only ONE trash can! do not waste your money. Sadly it’s only worth $30 but performs worse, now I will have to use up more money. At least the return procedure is simple. Still waiting on my $30 refund.

there’s simply no reason why anybody should purchase those NiCd Nickel Cadmium rechargeable cells for solar rechargeable light applications. For about the same price, you may be able to easily find NiMH Nickel Metal Hydride cells which offer the following advantages:

Higher capacity: NiMH AA cells are usually 2000 2700mAh, compared of just 600mAh for those NiCd cells.

No memory effect: NiMH cells are less probably to suffer from reduced capacity when they’re partially charged and discharged.

Environmentally Friendly: NiMH cells don’t contain Cadmium, a greatly toxic heavy metal. Ended NiCd cells must be disposed in special battery recycle bins, but majority of people do not annoy to do that. So those cells end up buried in landfill or, worse still, incinerated.

The only advantage NiCd cell has over NiMH is lower interior resistance, which lets it to offer high peak current in short bursts. That is why NiCd cells are used in cordless power tools and RC race cars. But in the case of solar rechargeable lights, the battery current is delievered gradually over 8 12 hours. So NiMH cells, with much higher capacity, are far superior as substitute batteries.

When I bought my CCI Moonrays 95669 Solar Powered Metal Path Light, 6 Pack, Copper I decided from the beginning to switch out batteries in half of the lamps with the other battery types because I had read the other review for this battery pack.

Honestly, I found these work better throughout the night over a longer time period. On occasion I wake up early in the morning for work, and noticed that the lamps with the batteries lasted longer and lighter into the morning. It was a couple months since i got the lamps and will certainly buy these batteries again.

I decided to do a little research on Wikipedia to find the reason.

These Moonrays batteries are Nicd, on the page it says “The main trade off with NiCd batteries is their higher cost”

But the advantage it says is

“the NiCd battery has a lower self discharge rate for example, 10 per month for a NiCd, versus 30 per month for a conventional NiMH under same conditions”

That means that over time, these batteries will hold their charge longer than others.

The other kind of rechargeable batteries are the NiMH batteries, and their page also says

“NiMH cells historically had a somewhat higher self discharge rate equivalent to interior leakage than NiCd cells. This isn’t a problem in the short term, but makes them unsuitable for many light duty uses where the battery could usually be projected to last many months or years.”

Wow I am a nerd. But it makes me happy

I just bought these batteries to change out in older solar lights where the batteries just seemed to die out. I could notice now how much lighter they were than my old batteries. They are plastic, light weight solutions to patio and path lights. I bought three sets of them so that I ended up with many extras. I have them in all kinds of places many of which get no direct sun. They have all worked great. I do not expect them to last for many years and I know that I’ll have to replace the batteries easy to do. But for the price, they are great! They come well filled and are easy to assemble. Inside minutes from opening the box you may be able to get them placed around the yard so that you may start enjoying them.

If you need small path lights just to lighting a walkway or path. You may be able to stop looking because these little babies will do the trick. They’re made of molded plastic, and they do give enough light to prevent injury and this soft light lasts all night on a single charge. I personally could liked the anchors that into the ground to be a little longer, but never the less they do the trick and they’re inexpensive.

I have had three of these for about ten years. Two are working after all this time and the 3rd one failed when the bulb burned out and caused a momentary short circuit. The sensor failed a small percentage of a second after the bulb. Shame but stuff on occasion happens. Replaced the failed unit with a spare and all is still well.

Another reviewer mentioned that the range is inadequate. I have found that while the units do react to a 360 degree circle, they don’t react equally in all directions. The unit responds excellently in two reverse directions and badly in between. The maker must know this because the center terminal is spring loaded and makes electrical contact about a half turn before the sensor screws tight into the socket. , you may be able to unscrew the unit by about a half turn and still have it work. I have taken some days and gradually unscrewed the sensor from the roof socket some degrees at a time till the most sensative direction faces my single point of entry. Works much better that way. Doing likewise may help many people.

This is an amazing product. I love it! If they were less costly, I’d purchase five or six. I have one in my basement, where the bulbs are old fashioned screw in to turn on types not pull chains. Yes, I could rewire the basement, but meanwhile, this is the ideal choice. Like many motion sensing devices, this socket does not work with a flourescent bulb, package information tell use it only with incandescent bulb. It also can not be used in an enclosed fixture, only a bare bulb fixture. But for closets, garages, pantries, basements, etc., it is perfect.

I bought this sensor for my garage so I would not have to remember to turn the lights on before going there. It works just as I’d hoped. I have two and after three months they still work good.

Rating: Great product. Skip wiring a motion detector and purchase this instead
Great product! It works perfectly in a garage hallway that was earlier unlit and had stairs, and had the one switch to the light across the room. You can see how dangerous it may be. I 1st tried to wire in a motion detector at the light switch, but that was too hard. Instead, I installed this simple motion detector that went right into the present socket, and it works like a charm. As the other reviews have said, I could use a regular bulb rather than a compact flourescent, as the compact flourescent takes too long to warm up. I could surely recommend this product.

Rating: Great While They Last.
I have owned four of these, since I need two. That’s, I 1st had two, then two replacements. I now have none functioning, which is why I returned to this page.

I am happy to see their price has come down a bit, since they are generally disposable units. The reviewer who notes that she had one fail when the bulb burned out isn’t alone.

In fact, in my experience, all four of the units I owned all failed the 1st time the the bulb in them failed. When a bulb in it blows, the unit simply fails and will never work again. I kept one alive a bit longer by being sure to exchange out the bulb at regular intervals, trying to avoid having a bulb burn out in it.

Then I tried to get clever: In the last surviving unit, I put in a CFL bulb that claimed to last five times a normal bulb without burning out. I can now attest that the unit doesn’t work well with CFL bulbs. The 1st time it came on it was dim, but working. The next time it flickered noticably, but I was on my way out and left the CFL in place. When I came home, both the brand new CFL bulb I had installed and the unit were dead.

All that being said, I may get another, since as the title says they are great while they last.

I bought this for my downstairs storeroom which I frequently enter with my hands full. The light comes on once I open the door. I not have to hunt for the string to pull to get light. I could recommend this for anybody who has a black room that could like many light once they enter it.

No more broken lamp chains, forgetting to turn off the lights, in short very useful product! I had many of the same problems mentioned, the wife keep bugging me on why it only seemed to turn on when she standed directly under it in the closet. Of course I did not read the information, I just unboxed it and screwed it in.

To those having problems there are two arrows on the bottom, one of they are supposed to face your entry door or the area you want turning on from the approached direction, the detection field isn’t round, but is very elongated. It is in the instruction book I really read with my second of these detectors.

I have three of these now, and all perform brilliantly in the closets they’re in.

It must be people or kid sized. Cats will not turn it on, many cats playing on the floor or on the dryer. I do not know about big dogs, I do not have one.

The bonus is that now I am not strangled by the chains as I walk by. And I never have to go back and check to see if I turned off the light.

For the price, this is a pretty good little light.

First, I bought the alike but somewhat cheaper Intermatic LT13 but it has the cheap twist lock top that I hate and that generally ends up coming off and on sitting on the side of my driveway.

The CL191 is stronger and more hard, and hardly costly at all.

The disadvantage of these cheap lights overall is that the small spike they come with is too short and a deer or anything brushing it may knock it over.

So, the trick that I like to think that I invented was to get a part of rebar.3/8″ I think, by about two feet long. Then drive it into the ground with a little single jack mini sledge hammer. Then, ditch the spike that comes with this light and slip the stem of the fixture over the rebar. It fits perfectly and is a much stronger foundation for the light than the flimsy spike it comes with.

The light that this fixture puts out over the LT13 is more and nice, too.

Overall, if you are looking at this review, you are most likely debating between this and the LT13 and I could certainly go for this one!

The only reason I gave it four stars instead of five is that it’s a somewhat cheap light and not a perfect product because the stake it weak, but with my customization I think it is pretty hard.

Worked well right out of the box carefully follow the lighting information and you may want to dont have problems. I plan to order two more now that I know what I’m to get. It is a good looking unit and many less costly than others. I figure it will last about six or seven seasons with reasonable care, maybe longer if I’m lucky.

Rating: Entertaining assembly procedure, decent heater
I’d recommend going into the assembly procedure in a good mood, so you may be able to get a laugh out of the somewhat chaotic and sketchy assembly information. If you go in short tempered you will most likely be depressing. I am pretty sure the parts in the box did not match up with the list of parts I has been supposed to have, which in turn did not match up with the parts referenced in the instruction steps. But the parts I had did all go together properly with nothing left over expect the 3rd foot mentioned below. It seemed like possibly the engineering of the heater was an evolving procedure and the information had not kept rate.

A couple of examples. The heater came with three little feet presumably to make it more tip resistant and a set of roller wheels. Neither has been mentioned in the information. The holes where the roller wheels screw on overlap where one of the three feet screw on, so I guess you must decide between three feet or two feet and wheels. I went with the wheels, which do make moving the heater pretty easy as long as you have the room to tilt it over. As well, the major instruction sheet just showed a single part top reflector. But the reflector really came in four pieces with own separate assembly card.

Anyway, it was not all that hard to figure out where the parts went and get the thing together.

I wheeled it outside, hooked up a propane bottle and it fired right up. Mine lights in just some seconds one of the other reviewers mentioned theirs takes 45 seconds or so. It does not bake you with heat which I suppose is good for the propane bill, but does supply a nice light warming to take the edge off on a cool night.

It is GREAT! we have had chances, here in the “changeable” Spring weather of Wisconsin and are very happy with the heater.
